Unemployment Day 8

So, sorry about the bad language last night. Maybe I had a few too many beers?

Colleen and I stood at Pete's feet. Just like Adam and I not too long ago. This time, he was wearing lace up boots, not unzipped boots. And it was darker but I'm pretty sure his pants weren't nearly so tight. Man, he was CUTE!

Plus, he played a Big Star song. How freakin' awesome is that?? Big Star! (Just looked it up and it turns out that album I didn't buy with Pete and Scarlett Johansson had a cover of that song. Interesting.)

Colleen and I went to Free State when I got to town and ate a huge bowl of chili con queso with our $1.75 drafts. That dip was AWESOME. So much for those 3 lbs I lost! After that (we had walked around for quite a bit too, wandering into various stores) we ended up at a place called Genovese. I think that's the name. I had a beer there and she had two. Then on to the Granada.

The Granada is a pretty small venue. I really liked it. Except the bathrooms were super weird. And tight. With no mirror in the upstairs one. The opening band, Alberta Gross, was okay. I'm pretty sure the lead singer was a heroine addict. Wait, he's a struggling musician, maybe meth? He had a good voice, very high. They were a bit loud for my tastes.

Then I made friends with a girl, Amber, who was standing alone. She had come by herself so the three of us positioned ourselves directly under Pete's microphone. Oh Pete. *sigh*

It was a great show. A guy, Drew, hung out with us too. He recognized me from the show at the Voodoo Lounge. I guess I chatted with him that night. I def. had too much to drink that night (liquor) so I can't say I remember every person I met - which was a lot because I talk even MORE when I drink. Shame.

So the four of us hung out after the show but apparently Colleen and I aren't Pete's type. Darn. Oh. And I snatched the setlist from the bass player's area after the show. Colleen snapped the "Yorn" tape from his mike for me. Pics to come :)

Colleen and I grabbed a sandwich from Jimmy John's before our walk home. It was a beautiful night out. Not too cool.

I haven't done a lot today. Finally got my unemployment papers in the mail so I'll be doing all that online crapola in a little while. Also need to get to the career center and do whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing through them. I do have a phone interview on Friday for a potential job, but I'm still not sure about all the details of it, so we'll see how that goes.

I can't even begin to describe to you all how awesome the trees are along the Plaza creek. So amazing and so many shades of red, yellow, orange and even burgundy. I love this time of year when the trees begin to change. I need to find my broken camera and take it in to see if it can be repaired. If not, I know what I'll be asking for Christmas this year!

I also wish I could have a weatherman's job because inaccuracy seems to be their forte. It was supposed to be nice and sunny today - which it is for the most part. However, it did rain (storm) last night in Lawrence and from what I watched on Fox News yesterday (cause I actually got it instead of just CBS and who wants to watch the soaps all afternoon when you can watch Judge Joe, Judge Judy and My Name Is Earl while you sew???) the rain isn't supposed to be here until late tonight. LIARS!!

I am fairly motivated today to finally clean up that stupid unorganized second bedroom. I got the curtains done yesterday and need to rehang the curtain rods that got ripped out of the wall on accident. My walls are paper thin and nearly impossible to find studs in so all of the curtain rods Mom and I put in seem to be pulling out of the wall. It's so annoying. I even used drywall anchors and long screws!

I'm going to work on my revised Things To Do list right now.

1. Clean and organize 2nd bedroom after switching bedrooms a few weeks ago.
3. Finish painting chair.
4. Finish 2nd bedroom curtains.
5. Rehang 2nd bedroom curtain rod.
6. Fill ginormous holes from picture removal.
7. Rehang pictures.
8. Figure out what the hell I'm going to be for Halloween.
9. Make Halloween costume.
10. Start tote/purse business.
11. Lose 15 12 lbs. (hahahaha)
12. Order Christie's birthday present.
13. Make Colleen's class cookies.
14. Take cookies to Colleen's class.
15. Take Rockband to Colleen's.
16. Play Rockband at Colleen's.
17. Design Andrew's new room.
18. Talk Josh into allowing the design.
19. Talk Josh into allowing me to spend more than $10 on anything.
20. Read the remaining 4 books on my 1% Well Read List.
21. Watch all seasons of Six Feet Under.
22. Get a stupid antennae so I can get more channels than just CBS.
23. And be able to move the ironing board/antennae out of the middle of the living room where it must be in order to get CBS.
24. Figure out why my stupid Twitter account suddenly died on Typepad.
25. Clean out bedroom closet and take summer clothes to Mom's house.
26. Figure out unemployment stuff.
27. Figure out Career Center stuff.
28. Find a job.

That was the highlight of my weekend really...Pete Yorn at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The rain decided against falling after dusk and it was a very nice evening for the outdoor concert. There wasn't a ton of people there but it was a good crowd in general. Pete sounded amazing. His band was great and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Not to mention that Pete Yorn, especially when he flashes a rare smile, is total eye candy. That hair...yum.

Other than that it was a boring weekend. No beach as Saturday was the concert and I hate to go to the beach and be all yucky that night (since it's a two hour drive in all). Sunday it just rained all day. Gross. It was so sticky and humid.

Friday night, we had a happy hour out back here at the office. Is is wrong to play drinking games at happy hour? I don't think so...I got a bit buzzed...who wouldn't with flip cup? I went home and lounged around and then Julie called me at 8 pm and I met her and MZ at Big Fish for watermelon martinis. So yummy.

The fuzzy butts had to stay at Uncle Mike and Aunt Julie's again last night as the exterminator, who got rained out last Monday, was coming today. Bugs are bad!

I'm trying to decide upon a lamp for my bedroom...my choices, as I can't seem to find anything fun and flirty like I am, are both at Urban Outfitters...both are cute and I like the owl the best because he's so cute, but in reality, the teal one would look much better in my room with my decor. Okay...that's it for now. I'm boring.

Oh, you silly Peaches, you! Singing those dirty electronic songs...I love it!

Peaches released her new album today, Impeach My Bush. Yeah. It's awesome. Gotta love the Peaches.

If you're not a fan of dirty innuendos or blatantly dirty lyrics, but love electronic music, a good place to start as a Peaches fan is her song "Operate." It was in the movie Mean Girls so you know it can't be that bad! Great song really...

So here I am at my desk eating lunch. Today it's a honey turkey and pepper jack samiche with hint of lime tortilla chips and wheat thins with herbed goat cheese spread. I love that goat cheese spread. It's yummy. And made in Missouri.

Last night was a terrible night for sleeping. I barely got any sleep. It sucked. I'm really feeling (and looking!) it today. I don't know why I'm not sleeping well. My medication was halted last week after getting (and still having, although not as violent as before) twitches. I'm sure the sudden lack of that, which helps with insomnia, is partly to blame. Ida was very happy however. She slept with me all night. Sweet little kitty.

I am still working on the infamous wedding gift so my nights are still somewhat lame. Last night bad tv commandeered cable and I ended up watching some bad Tom Selleck movie called Runaway, circa 1984. The music was very Labyrinth sounding and during the credits at the end was even called out: Music by Yamaha Digital Instruments. Sweet. The movie, directed by Michael Crichton, was about robots. You can imagine how dorky it is in 2006 to watch a movie made in 1984 about robots. I can only imagine with I, Robot will look like to us in 2050!

At least I got a lot done on the project.

I guess that's about it for now. I need to write my review of The Devil Wears Prada at some point...

second of five great ones i love.

today's music choice of my five faves is tori amos' scarlet's walk.

this cd came out in october 2002. i had it the second it hit the shelves and have loved it ever since.

i won't go into it too much because if you aren't a huge tori fan, you just won't care, but the idea is that it's a journey across america. as tori's website explains its "a sonic novel of sorts which takes the listener on an aural journey of America’s recent and not-so-recent past. As the story moves from coast to coast, questions are asked and notions are challenged with each song representing a specific stop along the way."

i just adore this cd. her lyrics (albeit sometimes typical confusing tori lyrics) are beautiful and her voice is quite remarkable. her previous mega-feminist motive behind her early cds that was sometimes misunderstood by non-tori fans (wailing tori?) is turned into beautiful melodies in this cd. it's not your typical tori. she's come a long way since y kant tori read and little earthquakes (still way up on my tori list! although to tell the truth, i love all of her cds) and in essence, a different way. it's still tori amos, with her beautiful voice and pounding keys, but it's a tori that maintains her beauty through and through.

it's hard for me to name my favorite song. "carbon", "strange", "pancake", or "a sorta fairytale." i guess it just depends on my mood. the good thing is that no matter what my mood, this cd always hits the spot. i can't live without it...that's why i have two purchased copies! one even came with flower seeds, growing in my garder right now (oh wait....that was the beekeeper packet, her next cd).

lately i have been unable to stop listening to the cardigans long gone before daylight cd.

i LOVE this cd.

i've always been a fan, but nina persson's voice is so enchanting to me: a little bit little girl but very pretty. intoxicating. the cd is so haunting and beautiful. it's an awesome cd to fall asleep to, think to, or just relax.

i think that when we all think of the cardigans we think of that little ditty "lovefool" from romeo & juliet. am i right? but the cardigans have much more depth than that song.

one of my favorite songs "my favorite game" was actually blacklisted from mtv's video list. one night my old roommate, val and i got home pretty late and we didn't have cable but by some phenomena we had mtv2. evidently (after a bit of research on my part just a second ago) mtv news had a 2 hour documentary on the 20 most controversial videos of all time, most of which were banned. mtv2 then aired all 20 videos (and then some) in a 3 hour special late one night. lucky for val and me, we got to see them. anyway, in the video (i'm getting ready to watch it again) nina persson is "driving" a big ole convertible without driving it on a highway (look ma! no hands!) and ends up killing herself in the end.

when you see a video like that and then really listen to their music, you realize that the cardigans are a band whose surface is a lot deeper than you would think.

anyway, i've decided it's one of my number 5 top albums of all time.

can't wait to actually get around to ordering super extra gravity!

for pete's sake!
